LEVI JEAN JACKET-PROFIT $21.93

Someone gave my husband this Levi jean jacket and being that it looked like it was from the 80’s, he gave it to me to sell.  I did not think this jacket would sell, little did I know that there is a market for old vintage Levi jean jackets.  I listed it in an auction for 7 days starting at $14.99 plus $5.99 shipping.  I had 77 page views, 7 bids, and it sold for a total of $35.98.  I was shocked that someone wanted this jacket and even more shocked that more than one person wanted it.  The point is never pre-judge an item, what you think is worthless could be worth something to someone else.

$3.59 ebay fee

$1.08 Paypal fee

$0 I re-used a box so I did not have a box cost

$9.38 FedEx Smartpost economy shipping

TIP:  I did not know at the time I shipped this item, but I should have used a padded flat rate 9.5 by 12.5 envelope, it would have fit in the envelope and it only would have cost $6.30.  The Post office does not put the padded envelopes out, you have to ask for it or order at www.usps.com.  It is flat rate so anything that fits will ship for $6.30, weight does not matter.

The total cost to sell and ship my item was $14.05, my item sold for $35.98, so I made $21.93.  The profit from this item will go towards swim lessons for the kids this summer!

VINTAGE BARBIES-PROFIT $9.02

I read somewhere that there is a market for vintage Barbie dolls, so I decided to try a couple.  I knew exactly where to find them, of course www.shopgoodwill.com.  I won an auction that included 2 barbie dolls and clothing for $24 including shipping.

Bubble Cut Barbie

Fashion Queen Barbie, with no wigs

Before I placed my bid I had to do some research because there are a lot of reproductions out there.  The markings are the easiest way to know the real thing from a fake.  The reproductions of the old dolls from the 50’s and 60’s will have a date stamped on the back of their neck or the small of their back.  The old dolls will have the patent information stamped on their bottom.  I also learned that just because a doll is marked with 1966 does not mean that is when the doll was made, 1966 is just a reference to when the patent was registered in the country for that doll.  The 2 dolls that I won was a Bubble Cut Barbie and the Fashion Queen Barbie.  I think it is easy to tell the difference by looking at them.  The older Barbies don’t have big smiles or show their teeth, they have older hair styles, they smell old, sometimes they can have green ears from their earrings, always check the way the patent is written on the doll’s bottom because that can get you closer to finding out what year and what type of Barbie you have.

I listed each doll separately in a 7 day auction.

I started the Bubble Cut Barbie at $19.99 plus $7.99 shipping, I had 142 views, 1 bid, and it sold for a total of $27.98.

I started the Fashion Queen Barbie at $9.99 plus $7.99 shipping, I had 56 views, 1 bid, and it sold for $17.98.

$24 total cost for both barbies

$6.80 USPS first class shipping for both dolls

$1.38 total paypal fees

Both of the dolls sold for a total of $45.96.  The total cost to buy, sell, and ship the dolls was $36.94, so I made $9.02.  What I made on both of these dolls was not worth the time, but you have to try new things if you want to expand.  I am sure there are people out there that make a lot of money re-selling vintage dolls, but it is not for me.  Regardless the profit from these 2 dolls will pay for a trip to the frozen yogurt place after school one day.

NIKE RUNNING-PROFIT $11.82

I found this men’s gray long sleeve Nike element running shirt at Goodwill for $4.27 including tax.  I knew this item would sell, but I didn’t realize how popular the Nike running line was.  Since this item I have found many Nike running items and they continue to sell for great prices.

TIP:  The Nike running tops and bottoms have reflectors on them, so I started taking pictures of each item with the flash off and the flash on so bidders can see the reflectors shine.  I feel like since I started using the flash on these items I have been receiving higher bids.

I listed this item in a 7 day auction starting at $9.99 plus $6.99 shipping, I had 90 views, 5 bids, and it sold for a total of $22.50 including shipping.

The total price to buy, sell, and ship my item was $10.68, it sold for $22.50, so I made $11.82.  My son just expressed that he wants to play golf.  After some research I found out that one of our local golf courses offers a Saturday morning golf clinic for kids.  The clinic is an hour long and costs $10, so the profit from this item will pay for my son’s first golf lesson!
