UNDER ARMOUR-PROFIT $8.36

This girl’s Under Armour sweatshirt was my first introduction to the amazing world of Under Armour.  I had no idea how much people loved the brand, every piece of clothing I have ever purchased has sold and for good prices.

TIP:  If you find anything Under Armour buy it, it will make you money every time.  However be careful with adult sweatshirts, the weight of the adult sweatshirts can weigh over one pound which means you cannot ship USPS first class, you have to ship either USPS parcel select or FedEx smartpost.  Due to the package weighing more the shipping fee will double if not triple depending on where it is going.  So make sure if you are purchasing an adult sweatshirt it is going to sell for over $20 so you don’t waste your time or money.

I bought this sweatshirt for $1.49 at our local Goodwill.  I listed it in a 7 day auction, the starting price was $9.99 plus $4.99 shipping, in 7 days it had 19 views, 2 bids, and it sold for a total of $15.48 including shipping.

GIRL’S ROXY COAT-PROFIT $8.67

One day on a treasure hunt at Goodwill I found this girl’s Roxy winter coat for $1.49.  This was the first kid’s coat that I ever purchased, the coat was so cool and in great condition, I knew it was going to sell.  I listed this coat in a 7 day auction at the starting price of $9.99 plus $5.99 shipping, it had 43 views, 1 bid, and sold for a total of $15.98 including shipping.

TIP:  Make sure the coat that you buy is a major popular brand, brands that have worked for me are Roxy, The North Face, Under Armour.  I still have a boys Guess coat and a toddler Timberland coat that have not sold, both are really nice just not enough people interested.

The total cost of my item including all selling and shipping fees was $7.31, my item sold for $15.98, so I made $8.67.  We have a McDonalds indoor play place by us, it is relatively clean, so sometimes after school the kids will get ice cream and play, the profit from this item will buy their ice cream cups and maybe an iced coffee for me.

NIKE PANTS-PROFIT $8.37

This pair of boy’s Nike athletic pants was the first kid’s item I purchased from Goodwill.  I really liked these pants, they were like new and were black, blue and white, great colors.  I didn’t know what the outcome was going to be, but I felt like this was a quality product and would most likely sell, but for what?  So I listed them in an auction for 7 days starting at $6.99 plus $4.99 shipping, they had 76 views, 8 bids, and sold for $10.50 plus $4.99 shipping for a total of $15.49.

TIP:  The kid’s clothing at the Goodwill by me is $1.49 per item.  $1.49 sounds like a very appealing price point, but most children’s clothing is worthless, so you have to be careful and choose the right pieces.  The item that you select has to still sell for at least $10 to make a decent profit.

The total cost of my item including all selling and shipping fees was $7.12, my item sold for $15.49, so my profit was $8.37.  Every year I buy my kids the parenting fun pass, the fun pass includes a dozen places that offer a buy one get one free or 1 free visit.  The places range from amusement parks to bounce places.  I would check with your local kid’s magazine and see if they offer something like this, for us the pass costs $10 and provides a year of inexpensive entertainment.  So the $8.37 profit from these pants will pay for one admission to one of our museums and my other son will be free.

ADIDAS GOLF PANTS-PROFIT $6.25

I found these Adidas climalite golf pants at Goodwill for $4.55 including tax.  I listed them in an auction for 7 days, my starting price was .99 plus $4.99 shipping, they had 53 views, 7 bids, and sold for $15.49 including shipping.

The reason why I started this auction at .99 was because when I was taking pictures of these pants I noticed that they had faint spots throughout, I did not see the imperfections while I was at the store, if I did I probably would not have bought them.  I thought they were going to be worthless so I started the listing at .99 plus $4.99 because I didn’t think anyone was going to be interested, I was wrong.  Not only did people not mind, and of course I showed and explained the spots, there were multiple bids and they sold for a good price, crazy.  I am very torn between starting an auction at .99 or trying to protect the price and start the item at a price I am okay with selling it at.  I beginning to feel like starting the auction at .99 is the way to go.  I will have to test this a little more and I will let you know.

TIP:  What I learned here is don’t be afraid of an imperfection,  almost everything that I sell is in like new or in great condition, but if the brand and type of clothing is right and it has an imperfection I will buy it.  As long as you clearly describe and picture the flaw(s) your item still will hold value to someone.

My total cost to buy and sell this item was $9.24, my item sold for $15.49 so I made $6.25.

TIP:  Obviously it is not worth going to a thrift/consignment store to buy just one item it would not be worth your time and gas, so when I go I try to find 10-20 items and I usually do.  When I first started I know I passed by a lot of items that were worth money, but I just didn’t know.  Now that I know what sells it is easy to find enough items to make the trip worth it.

One of our parks has a merry go round, the park is so popular that a Sabrett hot dog guy sets up on the weekends.  So the $6.25 profit from these pants will buy our hot dogs while we play at the park.

2 SAMSUNG S3 PHONES-PROFIT $33.62

So one day walking through my local Goodwill looking for treasure, I wondered if they sold cell phones. I asked the lady behind the counter and she said they did not, but I could check their online auction site and see if any were listed. I said what? She explained that there is a huge online auction site that pulls inventory from every Goodwill in the country. So after my in store treasure hunt that day I pulled up the website www.shopgoodwill.com and what I found was life changing. You name it they have it and not only do they most likely have what you are looking for they have it by the lot. So I signed up for my account which took a couple of minutes and I was ready. I was so over whelmed at first I was searching anything and everything I could think of, but I had to focus and think what should I buy that is going to make money. So I decided to stick with my original idea which was phones, one of my first sales on ebay was my personal old broken cell phone, I made close to $50 off of it, so I felt this was a good start. I thought even if the phones were broken they still would hold value. So I bid on my first auction and won 2 Samsung Galaxy S3 smart phones for $37.99 including shipping.

TIP: There is always a shipping fee so check the fee before you bid.

The only thing I knew about the phones Is that they powered on. The phones arrived a week and a half later, both powered on which was cool. I checked both esn/imei numbers and they were clear, but then I noticed one of them was getting hot. I took out the battery and saw that the white tab was pink which tells you the phone has water damage. You can still sell a phone with water damage as long as you list what is damaged so the buyer knows what they are getting. So I listed both phones separately in 2 different auctions each 7 days long. The following phone did not have water damage, I started the auction at $29.99, after 1 day I received a message from an ebay member and he asked if he could buy the phone for $57, I accepted his offer, I revised the listing added the buy it now price and he bought it.

The second phone pictured below was the water damaged phone, I started the auction at $19.99 including free shipping, it had 80 views, 6 bids and sold for $32.00 including free shipping.

My total cost for both phones was $37.99
$5.20 usps first class shipping for both phones, I shipped them separately to different buyers
$8.90 ebay fee (10% fee for both phones)
$2.67 paypal fee (3% fee for both phones)

6x4x4 inch boxes perfect for sunglasses and small cell phones

Both phones sold for a total of $89, my total cost to buy and sell these phones was $55.38, so my profit was $33.62. Not bad for my first www.shopgoodwill.com auction purchase. The profit from these phones paid for half of our gym membership that month. If you are a mom and you do not belong to a gym, join one. At the time I belonged to LA Fitness, the membership fee was $57 per month which included childcare for 2 kids. It is the best $57 you will ever spend you get to take an hour for yourself everyday and the kids get to play.

TIP: The LA Fitness by me waives the registration fee on Mother’s Day, maybe the one in your area does too, it will save you hard earned mommy money!

GUESS SUNGLASSES-PROFIT $10.28

I bought these new without tags guess sunglasses at Marshall’s for $13.76 including tax.  I listed them for the buy it now price of $26.99 plus 3.99 shipping for 30 days.  They had 23 views and sold in 7 days for a total of $30.98.

TIP: I was unsure if these glasses would sell for the price that I wanted since there was no tag and/or sticker, the only tag that was on them was the Marshall’s tag which I removed.  However in my opinion they sold quickly and for a good price.  Don’t be afraid to buy something new that does not have a tag if the item is priced right, I think the missing tag only hurts the value by a few dollars.  If the item is cool enough people will pay for it.

The total cost of my item including all fees was $20.70, my item sold for $30.98, my profit was $10.28.  Every time I sell something and make $10 I immediately think of my Birchbox payment, so this $10 will take care of that.

NIKE BASEBALL PANTS-PROFIT $5.74

I bought these Nike baseball pants size youth xl at Ross in the kid’s section at their regular price for $6.35 including tax.  I listed them for $12.99 plus 3.99 shipping for 30 days.  These pants had 40 views and sold in 12 days for a total of $16.98.

TIP:  Kids sports related clothing sells great on ebay, adult sports related clothing does not.  On one of my shopping trips I found an adult Nike padded football shirt, it had a retail price of $98 and was on sale for $9.99, it appeared to be a great deal.  It took forever to sell that shirt, I had to reduce the price so many times, finally someone bought it, but it only ended up making me a couple of dollars, I would not waste your time or money.  It makes sense there are a lot less adults playing competitive sports, therefore there is not a huge market for sports clothing.

DESIGNER SUNGLASSES-PROFIT $6.51

I found another pair of Oscar De La Renta sunglasses for $10.59 including tax at Marshalls.  These were the same style of aviator glasses that I already sold which was cool because I was able to click on the original listing of the first pair I sold, click sell similar, upload the new pictures of this pair and publish the listing.  I listed them for $22.99 including free shipping for 30 days.  This pair was listed for 16 days, had 30 page views and sold for my buy it now price of $22.99.  The first pair of this model I sold was only on ebay for 7 days, this time the same model was on for 16 days before they sold.  I feel like I took better pictures the first time, the pictures not being as good this time might be why it took an extra week to sell them.

TIP:  Take good pictures, I say good and not great because I like to over deliver.  I don’t want to have a professional picture of an item and have the customer expect the world.  I sell quality products, but I would rather the customer see the real item so they have realistic expectations of what the item looks like.  However in this case I don’t think the picture represented how cool these glasses were and I think they would have sold faster if my pictures would have been better.  So my point is take your time when taking pictures, make sure your pictures are clear, your angles are good and check your lighting.  I battle with lighting all of the time.  I can take a picture of a shirt with a light on then take another picture with a different light on and the color of the shirt looks totally different.  Find the light that works for you, but make sure the light you choose projects the most accurate colors, sometimes for me it is different lights for different colors.  I feel it makes a difference between selling an item vs. not selling an item or in this case selling the item faster rather than slower.

The total price to sell my item was $16.48, my item sold for $22.99 so I made $6.51.  I love selling sunglasses, they sell quickly, are easy to store, ship and the profit is pretty good.  $6.51 is almost enough for a fun hour at Chuck E. Cheese’s.
