I decided to try another brand of socks, this time I purchased 3 pairs of Nike Dri Fit men’s socks from Ross, an off priced retailer, for $8.47 including tax.  Based on my research similar products were selling for $16.99.  So I listed my item for a buy it now price of $16.99 for 30 days.  The item sold in 2 days for $16.99 and had 11 page views.

I shipped the socks USPS first class for $3.35, I did not weigh my package, I know I over paid, don’t forget to get a mail scale.

$8.47 item cost including tax

$3.35 USPS first class shipping fee

$1.70 ebay fee (10% of the total sale)

$.51 Paypal fee (3% of the total sale)

$.08 poly mailer

Total cost was $14.11, the socks sold for $16.99, so my profit was $2.88.  I found out when I got to the post office I over paid about .75 for shipping, so my profit should have been $3.63.  Little mistakes will add up over the long run so if you can avoid them it will save you money.  I know the profit does not sound like a lot, but remember it is about how quickly something sells, the quicker something sells the faster you can re-invest and make more money, plus $2.88 to me is a couple of snacks at the convenient store.
